2010 Acura MDX Review

If you don't equate spirited driving with SUV ownership then the 2010 Acura MDX is not for you. The Super Handling All Wheel Drive system makes even so-so drivers feel like road course super stars. The system not only splits power between front and rear wheels but can split the torque from side to side depending on the road conditions - the result is tons of grip, and that means the MDX goes exactly where you point it. Aggressive drivers may end up going through more tires than the rest of us but the handling is there.

The 300 hp, 3.7 liter V6 makes more than enough power and acceleration is brisk by any standard. The adjustable suspension is a nice feature but the ride is too bouncy in Comfort mode and too firm in Sport mode. A new six-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly with positive upshifts and a well-timed downshifts. All MDX trim levels get paddle shifters.

Like all Acuras, the MDX gets a five star crash ratiing from the Federal Govt.

Inside, the look is high tech and luxurious - the ELS Surround sound stereo is an industry leader when it comes to flawless sound and realistic bass reproduction. Soft leather and supportive seats help the miles fly by on a road trip.

Ultimately, the Acura MDX comes across as a kinder gentler BMW X5. The Acura is less expensive and yet offers 80 percent the X5's personality. That doesn't mean the MDX is inexpensive - it's not. Base models start at about $44,000 but can top $55,000.

Sporty SUVs aren't for everyone but if that's a combination you find appealing, the 2010 Acura MDX delivers a clean exterior look, modern and luxurious interior and super star handling.
