If you want an all electric car, the Nissan Leaf may be your first choice. Nissan is taking orders - there's a $99 placeholder fee. You can reserve your spot at the Nissan web site.
The price is about $32,000 but a federal tax credit knocks it down to a reasonable $25,000 or about the same price you'd pay for a mid-trim Altima. Nissan says the range is 100 miles. Car Concerns drove a Leaf test mule and found it to be very quick, quiet and lacking many of the whirrrs and clicks found on the Mini electric car.
