2010 VW Jetta SportWagen SE Review
There are plenty of alternatives to the more popular brands like Honda and Toyota. Those cars are fine but it's also nice to feel like the stuff you have is at least a little unique. That's where the 2010 VW Jetta SportWagen comes in. Sure the Jetta may be popular in some large cities but there's something about the wagon that seems to set the car apart all the more.
The SportWagen has a base price of $20,260 and it goes all the way up to $26,500 for a diesel powered TDI version. That car gets 42 mpg on the highway while the gas powered Jetta Wagon gets 23 city/30 highway. The car pictured above is an SE model with optional 17 inch wheels and a $1300 panoramic sunroof. Total bill is $25,460.
Only consider the Jetta if you like sporty (read firm) suspension and don't need a ton of room. The back seat is adequate but if you have four six-footers in there, someone will get shortchanged on leg room. The wagon body style allows for a little extra cargo room compared to a Jetta sedan.
Acceleration is OK but the 170 hp, 5-cylinder engine has a weak spot when launching from a dead stop. The interior can get noisy on the highway but handling is excellent for a small wagon.
The Jetta SportWagen SE comes nicely equipped - here you'll find ABS, stability control, heated seats, a touch screen audio system (no navigation) and a shiftable 6-speed automatic transmission. If you want an alternative to the "me too" Japanese brands conider the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen. It's not perfect but it has its charms - Brian Moody
