2010 Chicago Auto Show - 2011 Fiat 500
I haven't driven a Fiat since I sold my 1981 Spyder 2000. It's one of my personal goals to see a new 500 parked in my driveway and it looks like that goal is a little closer to reality.
The 2011 Fiat 500 will be sold through Chrylser dealerships as soon as the end of 2010. Expect the 500 to be the first of several Fiats to come stateside.
The original 500 was a rear engine car. This time around the 500's motor rides up front and now it's front wheel drive. Think of the 500 as a competitor to the Mini Cooper. Initially only a two-door hatch will be offered but a convertible could come later. Under the hood - a 97-hp engine hooked up to a 6-speed manual transmission.
Fiat pretty much bailed out of the US only a few decades ago, will American buyers forgive Fiat or do most not even remember - Brian Moody
